Egypt and China have strengthened their space alliance by signing a protocol for MisrSat-2.
The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) announced a significant milestone in its space research cooperation with China. The signing of the protocol governing MisrSat-2 highlights their joint commitment to developing space technology for peaceful purposes.
The protocol was signed by Professor Sherif Sedki, Director General of the Egyptian Space Agency, and Mr Li Jun, representative of the Chinese Space Agency. This marks a turning point in the development of space technology and cooperation between the two countries. The signing ceremony was held at the conference room of the Egyptian Space Agency and was attended by experts and engineers from both sides.
Dr Sherif Sedki praised the successful implementation of the MisrSat-2 project during his speech at the ceremony. He emphasised the importance of the satellite in supporting Egypt’s sustainable development goals and praised the close partnership between Egyptian and Chinese technical teams for their joint efforts.
Mr Li Jun expressed satisfaction with the strong cooperation between China and Egypt in the space sector. He stressed its importance for the development of space technology and its peaceful applications. The celebration marked the culmination of the testing phases of all three MisrSat-2 models, emphasising the shared commitment to achieving this remarkable success.
Egypt’s newest remote sensing satellite, MisrSat-2, was launched in December 2023 from Jiuquan Space Centre in northwest China aboard a Long March-2C rocket. MisrSat-2 will play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development in Egypt by providing high-resolution satellite imagery. The government can use this capability to monitor waterways, shoreline changes, agricultural activities, and detect land encroachments. This capability will aid in environmental monitoring and precise resource allocation.
Egypt and China have entered a new era of space cooperation with this agreement, reaffirming their shared ambitions to explore space and achieve leadership in this key area. The signing of the protocol is an important milestone in bilateral relations, strengthening ties between the two countries in this important and strategic field.
