Omnispace, an IT company, and MTN, Africa’s largest mobile operator, have announced the start of a partnership.
They plan to explore the possibilities of using satellite band to expand MTN wireless services in African markets. The main goal of the collaboration is to develop cost-effective solutions for global communications that turn cellular and terrestrial communications into outdated technologies. Companies will consider the possibilities of integrating terrestrial and satellite networks to serve the Internet of Things, as well as the development of an ecosystem of devices and software. Both companies see this partnership as an opportunity to provide access to secure and affordable 5G mobile communications by combining satellite and terrestrial networks. Omnispace expressed joy at the collaboration and the opportunity to add an unearthly network connection to its ecosystem of devices. MTN considers this partnership to be a strategic step that will ensure continued access to their network and contribute to the creation of infrastructure for the digital future. According to the agreement, Omnispace will develop a next-generation Internet of Things network for MTN markets, as well as test existing technologies using orbiting satellites.
Omnispace, headquartered in Washington, uses 5G technology to combine satellite and mobile networks to provide “one network” connectivity for IoT devices anywhere in the world.
MTN Group, founded in 1994 and listed on the JSE Stock Exchange in South Africa, strives to become a leading operator in an emerging market and provide the benefits of a connected life to everyone.
